Themed Drabbles, set Twenty-Two

Jedi

Mara Jade stared at Luke, her green eyes flaming, as a sneer formed on her lips. She hefted the lightsaber, his saber, high, preparing to strike him down.

He felt calm. Confident.

And for the life of him, he didn't know why. It was a subtle feeling, one that told him he had nothing to fear.

He saw the tremor in her shoulders and hands as she warred with the desire to kill him.

Then she lowered the saber.

"I'm not going to kill you yet, Jedi."

He grinned, amazed at her ability to turn any word into an insult.

Sith

Darkness.

Despair.

Hopelessness.

These were the emotions that flickered through him, that permeated everything on this dark planet. Their weight was damning, causing his shoulders to hunch as he walked through the palace.

He neared the nexus of it all, and his steps faltered for a moment.

The doors swung open of their own accord and he advanced. A dark, sinister voice called out from the darkness beyond; oily and tinged with madness.

"Greetings, Young Skywalker."

Luke's eyes adjusted and he could make out yellow eyes glowing from beneath the cowl of ebony robes and a flash of yellowed teeth.

Soldier

Luke lifted his glass towards his old friend; one of his oldest. He had known Wedge Antilles since those early days on Yavin.

"To Biggs," he said; his speech slurred slightly from the effects of the alcohol.

"Biggs," Wedge parroted back at him.

Then they upended their glasses, as Wedge looked around the Officer's Club. He laughed as Wedge sighed melodramatically.

"Y'know Luke, I think I'm getting too old for this."

Luke shook his head, a flicker of sadness crossing his face. "We've lost a lot of friends, I know, and they say that soldiering is a young man's game."

Civilian

Luke sat across the table from Han who was smirking at him as usual.

He leaned back in his seat, and grinned at his friend. "So, I heard that you're a civilian now."

Han shrugged his shoulders. "In a manner of speaking. I've been 'reassigned' to the Chief of State's office as a personal advisor. Ackbar wanted me to be able to hear classified stuff."

Luke laughed. "That sounds oddly… smugglerish of him."

Han's grin grew larger, brighter. "I know. I'd like to think that it was my influence on him. But no matter what the title says, I'm out."

Politician

He watched his sister on the raise dais addressing the Senate; her white robes shimmered under the bright lights directed her way.

She moved and spoke with a gracefulness he would have never imagined coming from the girl that had led them all into that compactor.

She gestured his way, and he walked onto the stage.

"Please, join me in welcoming my brother, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker."

He winced. He still didn't think he deserved that; there were so many things he hadn't mastered about himself. But he understood why she called him that. After all, it was all politics.
